Filson clothing and gear is built to provide lasting service. It belongs in the field, and our repair service helps keep it there. If a button gets torn off, or you get snagged crossing a barbed-wire fence, we can often repair it.
Typical Repair Methods
Filson repairs are strong and functional. They are intended to extend the life of your product rather than make it look new again. Repairs will be visible–character marks earned through hard use. Each one tells a story.
Darning
Holes and tears are reinforced with stitches around the damaged area, then strengthened with a zig-zag pattern. A backing piece may be added for larger repairs. This method is often stronger than the original material.
Binding
For worn seams and cuffs, binding may be added to protect from fraying. Binding materials are chosen to closely match the original fabric, though exact color matches are impossible due to natural patina.
Panel Replacement
Panel replacement is reserved for extreme wear. For large areas of damage, or when surrounding fabric is too weak to support darning, a panel may be replaced.
Button Replacement
Missing or damaged buttons are replaced with either originals or the closest available match. Slight differences in shine or color
may be visible.
Snap Replacement
Snaps are replaced with specialized, calibrated machinery. Backing material may be added for reinforcement. Vintage snaps with enamel finishes are replaced with modern equivalents.
Zipper Replacement
We can replace zippers on most garments. Due to construction constraints, we are unable to repair zippers on bags. Our bags are built with exceptionally sturdy zippers to ensure lasting service.
Luggage Repairs
Our repairs department stocks hardware for many luggage items no longer in production. We match the original hardware as closely as
possible, though slight visual differences may occur.
Our Guarantee
Filson guarantees every item for the lifetime of the item against failure of materials, workmanship, and manufacturer’s defects.
Damage Not Covered Under Warranty
Some damage falls outside of our warranty, similar to how a car warranty doesn’t cover collisions. In these cases, we may provide repairs for a modest fee.
Chemical Damage
Contact with some solvents, chemicals, or battery acid can weaken or damage fabric. Damage of this nature is not covered under warranty, though repair may be possible.
Animal Damage
Damage from moths, rodents, or pets is not covered under warranty. Non-warranty repairs may be possible if the damage is not excessive.
Leather Neglect
Leather requires periodic conditioning to prevent drying and cracking. This type of damage is not covered under warranty, but can often be repaired.
Alterations
Our warranty covers Filson products, not alterations performed by customers or third parties. Repairs to alterations or damage caused by them may be possible as a non-warranty service.
